Hi Steve, I've just done that and blown the fuse again! It's fuse No 23 that keeps going. It's in the handbook as one of 2x radiator fan fuses (obviously one for each fan). The 2A fan control and the other Fan 10A don't blow

Oops, forgot to add that although one of the fans looks newer than the other and is slightly easier to turn they do both turn by hand OK and aren't siezed.

As a quick check to work out if it is a wiring short or the fan motor, you could disconnect both motors and short the otter again. If a fuse still blows you have a wiring fault, if it doesn't, you have a shorted motor / partially seized motor.

Do either of the fans run? Or neither and just one blown fuse?

Hi Steve,
Neither fan runs. When the temp gauge gets to 90ish which is where I would expect them to cut in, the "fan fail" light comes on and the temp keeps climbing! I'm getting severly fed up with it as I drive the car to work every day and have to time my trips so as not to get stuck in traffic....not the most practical :( Apart from this there are both big and small jobs to sort but nothing that will stop me using the car to commute.

Er, I bought privately.....is there something I should know?!!? I'm happy to PM the car details if you think there there is something amiss.
The alarm has been silenced by the mention of a private sale.

Electric fans generally pull a lot of current on start-up and then stabilises once running. If the motor is old/corroded the initial current pull is likely to be higher and blow the fuse.

none of the devices mentioned in above are temperature control devices. they all effect the the mixture or temperature of air in the air box but only in very specific cicumstances. with a warm engine the temperature of the air entering the air box is at ambient temp. if that is too high for efficient running ,tough, it cannot be lowered as a true temperature control would do.
