Re: Wiper wheelbox-where from?

My understanding is that the motor and rack are common to lots of vehicles, mini's etc, but the angle of the sweep is different, this is down to where the pivot point is on the wiper motor where the rack connects to, so in theory if that radius is known any motor can be adapted to the sweep of our cars single wiper. The spidles do sieze up occasionally and can be dismantled, regreased and reassembled, if there is play there perhaps a bush could be made to do the job, if its the part that meets the rack they can usually be turned thro 180 degrees to use the unworn part cos less than half of the travel is used.
Hope this helps bash.

I believe that the sweep angle is varied by the different wheelboxes having different distances from the cable/ spring/spiral drive tube, not the motor.

The sweep angle is at least partly due to the number of teeth in the wheelbox. Mini wipers have a wide sweep angle, so maybe Mini wheelboxes would fit? If anyone has an old wheelbox it would be worth checking the number of teeth.

Apparent slack in the wiper system can also be down to loose wiper motor mountings so check these first!

Mines out at the moment (Elite - same as Excel?). I'll have a look if you want - it will need taking to bits eventually anyway!

Can't sleep - woke up thinking about wipers!!!

Here is a (rather expensive) replacement for the wiper motor itself that fits the Lucas 29w wiper motor assembly fitted up to the 1986 SE changeover: https://tvr-parts.com/tvr-parts/part-de ... r-upgraded

It apparently survives long periods of operation on a dry screen without even warming up, which would help to resolve the paranoia I feel about the risk of burning the standard motor out when it stalls on a dry screen. It is also stronger.

Separately, here is a useful write-up from SVC about Lucas wiper motor systems: https://www.s-v-c.co.uk/wiper-systems/
