heater control is stuck on hot, Can I close off the hot supply to the heater in the engine bay,

Post by Gray14 »

My heater control is stuck on hot, making driving in this weather extra uncomfortable in the cabin.

Can I close off the hot supply to the heater in the engine bay, without interfering with the engine cooling and causing damage to the engine.

Can someone please confirm this is the larger of the 2 pipes circled in the pic, coming out of the cylinder head close to the bulkhead.

Yep - that's the feed to the heater matrix. I don't know if the Series 2 has a bypass type heater valve - if it doesn't you may overheat cylinders 3 & 4 if you turn it off. Maybe you could remove the heater matrix return and connect the head output direct to that - you'd still have flow then.

You should be able to pop the clip and shut the valve in the engine bay. [although appears yours has no engine bay valve?]

I installed a 2 way valve a while back and it seems to make the coolant temp a little more 'rational' when using the AC.

The temp control always was stiff, and did finally pop off. I pulled that part of the dash and there was a part there that needed replacing, cannot remember just now what, but wasn't difficult
