ANNOUNCING THE WINTERBOTTOM RUN 2022

Post by richardw »

Following last year’s successful meeting on the occasion of Oliver’s memorial service, those of us who attended are putting together an event for this year, on 12-13 August. We will be joined by Oliver’s sister Sara and daughter Anne, and by his other daughter Jane on Saturday. We will also extend invitations to Mike Kimberley and other contemporaneous Lotus personnel.

In summary, this is the plan:

Friday 12th August

Rendezvous near Hethel at lunchtime at a venue to be arranged;

Depart on a fast tour of the Norfolk countryside, led by local and Lotus legend Simon Freebrey;

Check in at hotels;

Meet for dinner around 19.00 at the Mangreen country house Hotel NR14 8DD;

Depart for hotels.

Saturday 13th August

Meet at Classic Team Lotus for a tour probably around 10.00 am. Note that there is a charge of £38 per person for the tour.

Following the visit, depart for home or own activities.

This will be a great experience if last year is anything to go by, and everyone who attended wanted to do it again.

Unfortunately we can’t find a suitable hotel at a reasonable rate that can accommodate us all. Last year we used the Bird in Hand at Wreningham with deep Lotus connections - we dined in the Chapman Room - but they are not accepting large group bookings this year. Some of us are staying at the Bird and some at the Mangreen, but as they have limited rooms they are pretty much full. If you have problems finding accommodation Simon may be able to help, so let me know and I’ll summarise our requirements for him.

We need to finalise numbers for Classic Team Lotus ideally in the next week or so, so let me know either here or by email or messenger. Note that pms don’t always work on the forum, so don’t rely on those!

Look forward to hearing from those who want to come and to seeing you there.

Cheers, Richard

Yes, sorry about that Richard - you were in a minority of one on the dates!

I’ve booked it as a single, but I think all their rooms are large doubles. The one I stayed in last year certainly was.
Drop me a pm with your tel number and maybe email address and I will call them see which is best way to swap it over to you.

Hi Alan, I've attempted to reply with my contact details with a PM, but it's showing in my 'outbox' but not showing in 'sent'. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong ?

Thanks

Andrew

I think stuff stays in the out box until the recipient has read it, but the PM system seems a bit flaky at the moment. I sent a PM earlier in the week and it didn't get through.

We are stopping in the John Barleycorn in Duxford on the way up on Thursday night, the Bird in Hand on the Friday, and then the Falcon in Warwick on the way back on Saturday night.

Three pubs in three counties over three nights... Ollie would have approved! :)
