Door Handles
Apologies : Just moved the topic out of wanted
I've always half a job type of guy so here's job 67 1/2.
Yesterday I picked up 2 old doors with the purpose of having spare beams and latches.
Second to that I wanted to have a playground where I could tinker without consequence and to try and develop a replacement option and swap out the external door handle with a more readily available replacement.
Of course the first bit was easy and now the hard bit starts. The donor handle fits and all I have to do is connect the rods.
Unfortunately, having run before walking, I now need to un-seize the rusty latches to get play on the rods.
Tune in next year for the second instalment

My progress is also glacial at the moment
Donor handle looks like a good fit! Do the rods move in the correct direction?

Sounds like we need some more global warming. Fire up those engines boys!
I did today and went to the British Motor Museum, where I was very pleased to see Oliver’s book on sale.
Cheers, Richard

Re: Door Handles
The lock barrel is directly transferrable as well.

Re: Door Handles
First BIG issue.
How to convert the downward motion into upward motion??
I know what I need , but I don't have a pivot point (yet).
Answers on a postcard please.

Re: Door Handles
For the record, the two handle open operations are both downward actuating. However, the originals are Left and Right inverted so the action is reversed - upwards, which is what is required to pull the rod up to release the door latch.
The locking action appears at first glance to be a straight forward connection as per original with a little fettle of the rod length.

Re: Door Handles
Assuming you want to retain the air of mystery, and not tell us what it's off, how about posting a pic of the rear so that we can assess the connection points and maybe offer solutions?
Kind regards

Re: Door Handles
No mystery intended. They are mr2. My answer to bash's post doesnt seem to have posted. I'll post the rear shot later. The mounting brackets fit perfect too.

Re: Door Handles
Here is the back of the handles for comparison, they are opposite sides so are mirrors.
One additional point is the 3 locking tabs on the lower edge which will reduce any twisting on the weak rivnuts

Re: Door Handles
Latch mechanism just snapped in two. Slide bar for the lock sheared off. Not going to plan

Re: Door Handles
Hi,
Please let us all know if you get the MR2 door handles to work, if you do I would consider changing to them in future.
Trying to find original handles is a nightmare.
The original handles seem pretty weak.
I did speak to Lotusbits and they are considering remanufacturing them again.
We all live in hope!
