For Stu. Full MF diagrams received, many thanks.
I am new to LED bulbs, they are not the smae as incandescent (ordinary) bulbs. You cannot test them with resistance check.
They also need to be pole set when they can be fitted in a none definitive holder (no bayonet fitting).
If your battery is low ..... nothing happens.
It turns out I had a blown fuse on the clock and internal lights, once repaired the lights, Including door puddle lights, stayed on
and partially drained the battery. And a wrongly (polarity) installed capless LED bulb in a set of dashboard lights did the rest, no lights.
I must admit the brightness difference is very impressive.
I got my bulbs from Classiccar LEDs.
I was surprised that the front position lights on the Excel are Festoon type, not very bright, now greatly improved and the rear position/brake
lights I know will be clearly visible, although a bit expensive.
Dave the cog.

Re: Wiring diagram needed
Looking like my lighting issue goes a bit deeper than just the non working Flash.
I checked the stalk switching out and it's working just fine.
Now I'm understanding the wiring diagram, decided the next check was to put meter on terminal 86 of the headlamp relay. With working lights in general, but no flash, I expected to see no earth link on the Flash stalk, but an earth when switching lights on through the switch.
Well.... All I can say right now is my car is not wired as Mr Chapmans boys designed it to be. There is (has been) a bigger problem, with some corrective measures taken, that's got the lights working, but leaves the car without a headlamp flash. I'm not sure if the flash is an MOT point, but thinking right now is to sort everything else mechanically needed to increase the probability of a pass, then enter it and see what happens.
You know what they say about if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Re: Wiring diagram needed
It appears that the electrics on these cars are more complicated than most people who have tried to fix them think they are!
Am also wrapping my head around the wiring system and what has been done to my car, some of which will definitely need to be undone....
Hoping yours still functions!
Neil.

Re: Wiring diagram needed
Have you checked that all the diodes are still there Tony? Cheap enough to replace if they are suspect.

Re: Wiring diagram needed
I'd been thinking about diodes, but haven't seen anything that tells me where they are located. Any clues anyone.

You can't miss 'em! They're huge! About 10mm x 35mm black cylinders, !/4" spade connectors, often taped to the outside of the loom. There are quite a few associated with the lights.

Re: Wiring diagram needed
If they are the same as on the Excel, then this is what they look like - the tube at the top of the picture - a general internet search on the part number (A75-294) will provide more information

Re: Wiring diagram needed
Thanks Neil.
That's some really useful info regarding diodes. Should help a lot when I return to electrics.

Re: Wiring diagram needed
Sorry to hijack this post, cannot remember where new post listings are.
I have a parts manual like the one you are referring to, alas my car is an earlier model Dec 1984.
Only just realised when I looked at indicator stalk.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for earlier Excel?
Thanks in anticipation
Jim
