Re: 1992 Excel SE in online auction
No pictures of car ..but 30-odd photos of invoices, and MOTs!
Error on engine size too.
Popular colour, and a late MY car... No idea if it needs a resto, so £5000 could be expensive!

Re: 1992 Excel SE in online auction
Oh yeah!
The negatives: awful orange peeled refinish, cheap sunroof, leather paint a bit iffy, black painted walnut dash panel, jacking point sill damage, bent chassis nearby (subsequent jacking attempt I guess), exhaust hitting trailing arms, not properly cared for at some point in life.
The positives: great colour, late MY car, new rear shocks and springs, potentially just £5000, it's a Lotus!

Re: 1992 Excel SE in online auction
Towards the end of photos, these a lot of written history and MOT's etc. So much I couldn't be bothered to read it all, but did see invoice from LB for a clutch replacement in March 2020 to value of over £1300, some SJ sportscar invoices and a story written that if I read right looks like seller bought in August ( cant be sure it was last August) with intent to restore.
What goes together.... Must come apart.

I had a good look at the pics - certainly looks like it's been cherished and well maintained. Yes, the body/paint could do with some TLC, but I'd say it's looks fundametally OK, be interested to see what it sells for.

Big dislike of glass sunroofs, the finish on the roof looks like either scratches or microblisters or laquer loos or all three

Going up. Now £600.
Story line at the back of photos suggest it was bought by current owner last August and spent intervening time under restoration, but without removing chassis. All usual area dismantled and re assembled like doors.

Re: 1992 Excel SE in online auction
It looks great in the photos from 10 yards. But £5000 could be expensive if it turns out it needs an engine rebuild as well as a roof-refill plus paint and interior. The interior to me looks like an amateur job...probably done in a hurry (maybe mould due to sunroof leaks?). Close inspection required - not a safe auction gamble I suspect.

Re: 1992 Excel SE in online auction
I viewed this car last summer and came close to a deal, but not quite close enough (it hadn't had a recent cam belt change at the time). It's had some work done since, quite a lot of work it seems. I've got some more photos, but the ones on the auction site are quite sufficient. It was previously jointly-owned; if I remember correctly the owner who was bought out was quite a frequent poster on here, whereas the current owner didn't really do forum stuff.
It's a very nice car, the main issue is that the paintwork (lacquer peel) isn't up to the excellent condition of the rest of the car. The lacquer peel is clearly mentioned in the auction description.

Re: 1992 Excel SE in online auction
The Market have been successful in the last year or so and seem very switched on to values so it will go for a good price I reckon, even given the valid points raised above.
Seems projects are £3000 plus now, anything with mot and evidence of recent use £5000 plus and minters £8000 plus. Add £2k for dealers.
I know they change hands for less on the forum occasionally but we do seem to undervalue our cars.
The media suggest that 'real world' classics are becoming more popular whilst investment stuff with phone number pricing is dropping.
Will be interesting to see what it does go for.
