Wiper motor

For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

That's OK. Let me know if you hear of anyone looking.

OK - sorted the wiper motor. I bought an early Excel motor (still fits in the same place as Elite/Eclat, so parks correctly) from LotusBits along with the Excel wheel box. Waiting for a new parking switch (readily available :D) before I fit it. I then started looking more closely at where the spindle goes through the scuttle - I could tell that my car had obviously had a leak in that area in the past from all the staining on the inside of the bulkhead. The shape of the scuttle does not make it easy to seal; you are fitting a flat washer to a concave surface - hence the leaks. I think the Excel is modified in this area to prevent the problem.

Since the 29W spindle is thinner than the 16W version I decided to fit a top hat bush in the hole to give a nice flat surface to seal against:

Finally bonded in place with white-pigmented epoxy:

I can fit the motor now - first bit back on the car!! woo hoo :D

Nice one. Was just reading earlier today that this area is one leak path on Excels, so not sure much was done to correct it.
One small step for Elite, one giant leap forward for satisfaction 🏅

I had a leak from the spindle when I purchased mine. PO had had the bonnet and scuttle resprayed and no rubber washer fitted to give any sealing

There was a rubber seal in top of spindle inside the car, but this was indented and so not fitting well. To cure this I found a rubber boot that is normally used in a ball joint that was a tight fit around spindle and fitted over current seal. Added a rubber washer to outside and added some sealant between washer and body.
