Recolouring Leather/Vinyl

Thought I would give a shout out for Furniture Clinic self-seal colourant. PO had tried to clean vinyl with meths with inevitable results plus 34 years wear and tear.



The missus spent an hour with patience and a make-up sponge and the results are dramatic, literally like new.



The grey GRY05 is a good match for my interior but they will custom mix to a sample. £19 delivered for 250ml which is enough for a complete interior.

Yes, The same company I used for my blue dye (DS10920) I did send a sample so is 100% match. nice to apply with slight dabbing and stroking with a sponge. My interior is blue/grey half leather so you have to be careful not to get any on the grey cloth. I did try masking tape on the cloth but didn't stick well so easier to just be careful.

There's a few places where my leather could do with some improvements, some bits with stains or where the dye has started to wear away. I've just got some Gliptone GT11&12 to try out but I suspect I'll need to try dyeing it.

A question - you both mention sending away samples for matching. Where do you get the samples from?

I previously used Woolies Trim products and was really pleased with the renovation, including scratches to the
leather around door handles and cowling behind steering wheel.
Samples are taken by lifting a door card and cutting from a hidden area. However Woolies know Lotus colours.

You can cut a small part of the excess vinyl/leather from under one of the panels (or seats) as Dave has said.

I initially got the colourant/sealer as part of a 'Repair Kit' as my centre console was pretty rough. This also includes filler and glue and also 5 different tints to change the main colour slightly if required.

Mrs Andy spent yesterday evening doing the glove box lid, steering wheel and fusebox cover. Just the 2 rear panels and main dash to do now.

There was (for some unknown reason) a piece of leather about 5" square in the glove box so sent that but a bit from inside the door card will be ok (anywhere that hasn't seen the sun)

Cheers all. I guess I need to take the door card off then....actually the passenger door lock is playing up (how unusual for an Excel!) so it's going to have to come off soon anyway.

And btw Andy, that's a nice job you've done on the centre console.

Good stuff that filler once you've gained confidence using it and have the patience to let it dry properly before sanding.
