New owner, Cambridge

Post by SRBrown »

Hi all, I have acquired a lovely 1988 Excel SE in Champagne Gold - I thought is was a rare colour but judging by comments in some other threads it seems it is not as rare as I thought! The car is not perfect but is in good shape, well looked after by the last two owners, smooth and precise, no squeaks or clunks, but leaves me a few things for me to do to improve it further. A Leather interior retrim perhaps? The Excel is such great value. Since the first trouble-free test drive and 120 mile run home from the vendor, it has developed its first (minor) issue, an intermittent choke warning light illuminating when the choke is not in use, so maybe the car is going to keep me on my toes.

SR

Welcome in to the fold.
The Lotus Eclat, a lot like the English Whisky company: comes from Norfolk and better than you are often told it is.

Thanks for the welcome all and for the low fuel reminder. The fuel gauge is reading a 1/4 tank but I have a feeling your hunch is correct and a refuel will sort it. Looking forward to getting stuck in to the forum.

Welcome to the Party!
FWIW, my choke has a minor electrical contact issue on the internals. If I pull it out it doesn't usually light, but if I lean a little pressure on the side of the pull it will illuminate until I relieve the pressure, so it could be electrical/mechanical. But Like Angus suggested, likely the low fuel aspect of the light's dual use.
Hope you get miles of smiles from her.

Hello, sounds like a standard feature! There is no delay on the fuel level sender. As the fuel tips around the tank, mainly when cornering the low warning comes on. It's normally noticed on 1/4 tank or less.

Hi,

Where about's in Cambridge? I live near St Neots and am a relatively new Excel owner (1 year and 2 days and counting) so would love to meet up and compare notes.. Glad to hear that the fuel light coming on as you corner is common...:-)

Hi, Welcome to the club!
I'm based in North Hertfordshire. Great to hear of more Excels in the local area.
