Re: Paint codes
The paint code for Excels is on the VIN plate - is it the same for the Elite? Have you looked at your VIN plate or for any other stickers under the bonnet?

Re: Paint codes
Yes, for Excel, Elite, Eclat, Elan, Europa, etc... the paint code is stamped on the main VIN number plate. NOT the little supplemental VIN plate at the base of the windshield, but the much larger, main VIN plate. In the 4-seaters, that plate is found in the engine bay, on the right wheel arch. Look in the lower-right corner of the plate.Alan_M wrote:The paint code for Excels is on the VIN plate - is it the same for the Elite? Re: Paint codes
Gareth, pick the blue you like best. May I suggest British Racing Green blue as the best blue out there!theelanman wrote:That's brill thanks........

Re: Paint codes
To that end.......
Is there a library of pictures denoting the listed colour of the car........
I might want to change my colour.........
It was blue originally but I don't know what that blue looked like.........so while I'll pick a lotus colour.......it may not be the same colour blue

Re: Paint codes
Hi Alan. Congrats on having a blue Elite. I had my blue one from 1979-ish for 4 years, based in Madrid where I shared the honours with another Blue Elite owner Lori Cunningham, the Real Madrid football player.
Paint codes. The Elite Workshop Manual (1979) has a Service Bulletin of 3 pages describing the Polyurethane paints for four colours, White, Red, Yellow and Orange denoted S01 to S04.
From the Lotus Paint listing that Angus has posted there creeps in the reference for Oxford Blue
although you will see the information is sparse.
The Manual also has 3 pages on paint application.
If you want e-mail scans of these pages let me know.

Re: Paint codes
Ok.....so I now have the paint codes........erm......but is till don't know what they look like........
We had similar with the Elan colours but compiled a library which included big pics of cars in the listed colour
Do we have anything similar on here?.........
I want a dark blue.......is that oxford blue?......I think as my car is 1978 then it wouldn't be Essex blue.......
If I can find a reasonable or preferred shade of blue then I'm quite liking a dark metalic cobalt blue.......
I'm not usually one for non standard but I wonder if an update on the lotus dark blue (what ever it's called).....to a deep metalic in a verybsilar shade might be the way to go......

Re: Paint codes
Just remembered, under our noses. This year´s Forum calendar, month of June shows a dark blue Elite, reminds me of mine so is probably the elusive Oxford Blue. The registration is PF? ... but I no longer remember the corresponding year, perhaps Angus knows the name of the photograph author.
Please do not paint your Elite any other colour.
