Door Gaps What To Do

Hi I have seen on a number of threads about doors that have dropped, and some say shim them others say re-bush & pin them some even say due to the weight strip them of glass,
frame and skin and remove them.

I don't want to go that far but does anyone know what the gaps are meant to be ?

1) Top at square corner by "B" post.
2) Top at round corner by screen.
3) Door to wing at the top.

Mine measure Drivers Door.
Top at square corner 14.0mm ( "B" Post )
Top at round corner 10.5mm ( By Screen )
Door to wing at top 8.0mm

Passenger Door
Top at square corner 12.5mm ( "B" Post )
Top at round corner 6.0mm ( By Screen )
Door to wing at top 8.0mm

So can someone please tell me how to shim, washer, or pack or just plain old adjust without taking the doors off ?
If I have to shim or pack or use something else, please give me exact details and if you can pictures of bits required
and from where.

Sorry for being so long winded but wanted to make it plain.
The manual doesn't tell you any gaps or how to adjust the doors when they drop.

Can you show in pictures? Is there play in the hinge pin?

Without extra gap measurements for the doors themselves, its difficult to tell. At least those gaps are the same both sides. Maybe you need to reposition the frames slightly to even up the gaps? There are others better qualified than me who have done it...(calling Mr Windwood!)

Hi I want to raise the doors due to the damage to the door seals made by the door cards before I replace the door seals.

RE photos. You need a picture hosting site. I find onedrive very easy. From the site of your choice you paste in the link using the IMG button above. You can post as many as you can type

Have your doors actually dropped ?
Can you feel movement in the hinge when lifting the rear edge of the door?
Don't forget your door seals may be at least 23ish ( lordy my maths is poor) years old. They will be worn.
Don't fix what isn't broken.
These are hand built cars everyone is slightly different, what might look ok on one car may be different on another.

Hi Jason the hinges are solid no movement I tried lifting the doors up and down at the corners and the whole side of the car is the only movement. Yes my car is a 1990 28 year old one, but the round rubber part of the seal has quite a big gash made by the card in it and the stiff part of the seal has a groove in it made from the bottom card retaining screw.

I am trying to find a way of putting photo´s on here of the door gaps top and sides also of the hinges to help.

Hi All

Can someone explain exactly how to import pictures onto the post, where is the attachment button, paperclip button etc. I have tried using the Img and all it seems to do is open up the picture.

I don´t want to download software to do this, I have been able to put pictures on emails etc elsewhere in the past.

This forum doesn't have its own photo hosting due to bandwidth considerations (i.e. it's free so you get what you pay for). You need to sign up for a 3rd party file/photo hosting service. We currently recommend Microsoft Onedrive as that seems to have the easiest photo sharing mechanism for most users and you can set up most mobile phones to automatically upload photos and video to it.

You can manually adjust the width and height values. have doctored them to width=1120&height=860

How does the door close ? Can you just push it closed or does it need a good slam?
If it closes ok, you can adjust the panel fit by lifting the door shell on the beam. There's two 10mm head screws in a diagonal across the door catch. These hold the shell to the beam. The holes in the shell are slotted. Loosen and lift the shell.
I'll try and get some pics posted soon.

Hi,
I think I have finally managed to put photos on of my door gap problem. I am not requesting a way of changing the gaps on the vertical sides of the doors but both are close. It is the gap between the top of the window frame and the roof at the square corner which is 14.0 mm and 10.5 mm at the round end on the driver's side, and 12.5 mm on the square corner and 6.0 at the round end on the passenger side. I only want to raise the doors to clear the rubber seal to stop the replacement seal from being damaged.

I have only put photos on of the drivers side but the problem is on both sides.
