Window channel-fitting?

Post by Johnwindwood »

Guys

So the Lotus has arrived ! :)

An urgent priority is the fact that the driver's window won't shut because the glass channel has dissolved. The car came with a spare window with good channel on the bottom.
Am I right in thinking that I can't remove the window without the frame? If so, is it possible to fit a new channel in situ?

Thanks.
Kind regards

John

I had the same problem a few years back John. You do need to remove the frame to fit and new channel but it's not a difficult job. I was able to remove my window frame, spray-paint it and then fit everything back together in a day.

Ah-I was hoping that wouldn't be the case. The frame is knackered and I have a pair of new frames to fit, but the door beam needs replacing and I can't afford that yet.
I was just hoping to get the window to work temporarily. I think I'll take the door card off and see if I can just fix the window in the up position for now.
Thanks.
Kind regards

John

Not sure the condition of your motor arm, but the wheel on mine had disintegrated and the 'roller' was just a metal peg. As a stop gap, you can remove the armature easily without pulling apart the frame or window and then replace the roller/wheel with a simple long-ish bolt wrapped up in tape to push up the glass and hold it there until you can replace the whole system. Might be worth putting some tape on the bottom edge of the glass too.

Since my track/lift plate and roller were both dead I used the following to fix the whole window...

bought from ebay:
Window Glass Lift Plate Front-Left/Right Dorman 924-249 (I cut off about 3" of length)
and
Window Regulator Roller Front/Rear Dorman 74430 (The 3 pack contains 3 different hardware setups - the wheel is the same size, choose the hardware that works.)

I'm in discussion with a fabricator about getting some new lift channels made. Once I have an idea of price, I'll gauge interest here.
