1986 Excel SE wide body, face lift model For Sale - SOLD

I have decided to sell my Red 1986 ‘D’ registration Lotus Excel SE wide body facelift model. Genuine low mileage of only 33,110 miles and minimal owners. Including myself, this car has had only two private owners from new plus the dealership showroom registration as this was the original dealer demonstration car. I also have loads of paperwork in a folder and a lotus parts and service manual to be included. This car is original in almost every respect right down to having the correct and complete toolkit strapped into the boot and the original stereo radio cassette. The only ‘modification’ is that it has a glass pop up sunroof. This was fitted FOC as a buying incentive when the car was sold to the first owner and not retrofitted to hold up the headlining as so many others have. However what lets this car down dramatically is cosmetic appearance. The lacquer is peeling in various (read lots) of places on the bodywork. It definitely needs a top half re-spray at the minimum although it would look better if sprayed all over. The headlining is drooping and needs replacing and the plastic on the dash binnacle is split and cracked. Overall the interior is reasonably good. When I bought the car it only had 29,000 miles on the clock and had been standing outside and unloved for a long time. I had every intention of bringing it back to its former glory but like many others before me, I have realised that it is just not going to happen. I have had it five years now and nothing has progressed. When I first got it I checked it over, replaced the fuel, fitted new tyres and put on a new timing belt. It then passed the MOT with just one advisory regarding the shock absorbers. The shocks were functioning properly, just the metal dust covers were rusting. I then used the car for a year and put it away for the winter. The only issue that arose that year was the clutch slave cylinder failed. I replaced that with a new unit and also bought a new clutch master cylinder but that has not been fitted yet. The car runs well but would probably benefit from a service. The clutch, gearbox and drive train are also all good. The door frames are excellent and amazingly everything electrical works including pop up headlights, fuel gauge, choke warning light, Oil pressure gauge etc, etc. This is definitely a good running project considering the low mileage, low ownership and originality of the car. I am not going to advertise anywhere or 'Ebay' it as that only invites loads of opinions and loads of messers. I hope that there may be a genuinely interested buyer on here. I am looking for £1500 for this car. You may offer more if you want but I won't take it!
