very tasty. like it. reminds me of my yellow éclat I bought for £900 (in 2004), £200 to get it through its MOT, used it for 4 years and sold it to a chap in Ireland. He drove it back!!!

Re: Eclat project
Chassis condition pending, it does look too good to break. All the usual foibles, seized brakes etc, those damn inboard drums....which were the worst job I ever tackled until I worked on Esprits...
I am an EX owner; I have ceased to be

Re: Eclat project
I will stick my head above the parapet wall. I bought this lovely carnival red early éclat 520 earlier this year. I had the car transported to North London and it's been put into a lock up for now. I think it's a good example for restoring. It's complete with a very good interior and appears to have an engine that could be started. The chassis is probably the original and might have to be changed but it's got potential. The staggered Wolfies look very sporty and polished up will complement all the gold trim.
The éclat 520 is an interesting car as it has the four speed Ford gearbox and higher differential which makes for a more spirited drive much in the vein of the earlier Lotus cars of the period before they went upmarket.

Re: Eclat project
if i were silly enough to by a car that i was advised "looks worth saving" and lost a lot of money saving it would i have a case for compensation from the author or publisher.

It's never going to happen to you (is it?) - so why worry about other folk's freedom to choose?alanbell wrote:if i were silly enough to by a car that i was advised "looks worth saving" and lost a lot of money saving it would i have a case for compensation from the author or publisher.
Besides ..we are now entering the Teflon-coated "Post Truth" era which means all that litigation crap that wrecked the out-going era known as - 'Adopt-a-Victim - It's a PC World!' - isn't going to stick!
So perhaps we all need to re-adapt our thinking if we want to survive the culture change?

only some aspects of "victim" and ambulance chasing litigation MAY be restricted. i know , from the experience of a family member that advice given about the worth of anything can be disastrous unless the adviser can prove it to have been be accurate, rather difficult to do in the case of a car you have never seen.

I think you're stretching a point ... but I'll take heed of your warning advice and not buy the Eclat.alanbell wrote:only some aspects of "victim" and ambulance chasing litigation MAY be restricted. i know , from the experience of a family member that advice given about the worth of anything can be disastrous unless the adviser can prove it to have been be accurate, rather difficult to do in the case of a car you have never seen.
But if it turns out to be worth saving and I've lost an opportunity to be the happy owner ...I'll get back to you!

Re: Eclat project
Peter, but i did not offer any advice regarding the car, only that it is foolish to imply that something has a value that makes a course of action worthwhile. you are, of course free to choose to take the the advice in the first post
