There's a red Excel up for auction tomorrow in Pickering.

Anyone know it or going tomorrow? Thinking of a trip across.
I'm up near Scotch Corner myself so only about an hour and a half away.

Re: Excel at Auction
I daren't. I'd end up with 3 partially-working cars.

Re: Excel at Auction
If there's been a boat in the auction it would have broken all sales records today.
A good day to see if the Excel leaked (it was wet in the drivers footwell but not elsewhere), but not a day to check paintwork or lie on the ground or look underneath. ( I cannot swim).
Car reached about £4600 which was above what I would have valued it at but was then withdrawn by the Auctioneer.
for those interested, the headlining was hanging like curtains, the cream interior leather was in one piece with no rips. Bit grubby but would clean. Drivers seat a little leather patina. Dash top wasn't curling away from the screen like on my last one so not leaking from the screee. Window frames seemed good, water pump didn't seem to leak, considering the car has stood a while but the two header tanks were empty except for rust. Oil looked clean, filler cap clean.
Basically I reckon with a FULL valet and a service it might have been a worthwhile car but I wasn't prepared to risk my money on it in it's apparently neglected condition.
Think it's due to go back into the next sale.

Re: Excel at Auction
Probably worth 4.5 k in the current uplift-market for Excels mind you. I think these days you'll have to spend 5-6k for a (not perfect) good-un. I wouldn't let mine go now for less than I paid in 2000 (6500GBP).

Re: Excel at Auction
Hi
Auctioneer pulled it at £4600, then there's the 7.5% commission plus Vat at 20%
That's about £5k
There have been decent looking ones sold recently for that sort of money and this needed a few£££ spending and that's without any recommissioning work, seals, hoses, belts and bits and pieces underneath or under the bonnet. It looked neglected and needed a full valet to.
Better to buy a decent one to start with. That all said a few owners/top spec tidy car just changed hands for over £9k I believe and this one with work may/could possibly end up being a similar car.
(It was stood in about 30mm puddle with heavy rain falling I wasn't donning my wet suit)
Oh and as an afterthought, most cars failed to reach the lower estimate figure but some exceeded the estimates. A rust ridden Escort RS Mk 1 (full matching numbers and authenticated RS though) reached £27,000. Yes that's the right number of 0's
The lad sitting next to us pulled out at £26k and was utterly devastated he didn't get it.
