Hi all
Been changing some blown dash bulbs on my Eclat in prep for the MOT and managed to pop off the speedo cable from the back of the clock....it wasn't held on by much, but now I cant seem to get it back on at all?
Not only is the cable incredibly short (basically if you ease the clocks away from the dash more than a few inches it's off) there doesn't seem to be any way of retaining it the cable socket to the clock. There is a funny little plastic "finger" protruding from the cable socket surround which doesn't seem to connect with anything on the clock output spigot. Similarly the output spigot has a groove around the circumference, with nothing to match on the cable?.
Any clues? Surely it doesn't just stay on by friction?

On my Excel the drive was held in place by a knurled fitting that could be screwed on and off by hand. Not sure if that will help you as no doubt the Eclat is different

No sign of that, and no rattle of something disappearing into oblivion either!

Yes - should be knurled backing ring as shown from my cruise control pick up. Obviously dropped off during dash removal at some time

Unfortunately the Eclat/Elite did not receive the depth of thought to such intricacies as the Excel did, it's a push fit!
Thanks to Dan Jarvis for pics and advice of his Eclat clocks. Seems my approach was fundamentally flawed, I had the dash panel out and was trying to mate them and the speedo drive together using 2 hands. The right way is to screw the dash panel in securely, assume the Lotus position, and this gives you enough to push against......after a bit of twisting the cable just sort of popped on.
