Door seal confusion

Post by LOTUSLOVER »

I have been reading a lot about door seals on the forum and would like a bit of advice about what to replace my drivers side door seal with?
Genuine Lotus, Woolies or other?.
Paul Matty seem to be the only supplier that states 'weather strip with corner' -I presume all the others are just a length of rubber strip, and if so how would you make the top corner join (90 deg) weatherproof?

I wouldn't buy a Woolies doorseal again. The quality and price is fine but the profile is wrong.

I've found this to be the best

I've had trouble with door seals. I tried both the Woolies seal AND the official Lotus replacement seal, neither of which were satisfactory - they both fouled the door card on closing! The fellow to contact is Bob Chapman, a Club Lotus member who has a seal made up to the right profile (and cheaper than the Lotus part). Email him on Teamchapman@aol.com

I had the same problem with the seal fouling the door card and Bob's seal solved the problem, leak proof too.

Just fitted a set of door seals that I have had laying around for years from a Reliant Scimitar SE6a. Absolutely perfect profile and already has the 90deg corner. About 4" too long which was easy to cut out of the bottom straight section.

Just fitted Bob's new door seal, I must admit it made me sweat fitting it and that was on a cold day!
The old seal was fitted with plenty of silicone sealer but the new one pushes on really tightly, no sealer required.
It looks good and fitted very well, the only really tough bit is making the mitre at the top of the 'B' post and making it look neat, the seal is very tough and has metal in it but it can be done.
Just see if it keeps the water and air noise out now.

Hi
Has there been any further developments with door seals since this thread in 2011 ?
My drivers side seal looks like the original where the rubber is an elongated rounded rectangular shape extending "outside" the line of the bit that fits over the fibreglass whereas the nearside has a more rounded rubber seal in-line with the part that fits over the fibreglass.
Now I've had the nearside door hinge replaced, the door sits slightly higher and there's now a lot of wind noise at the top of the door.
Are Bob's seals still the ones to use of has a more usual Lotus parts supplier started producing the correct profile ?
Also, if Bob's are still the best to use, are his contact numbers still ok ?
Thanks

Thanks
