Hi guys, not sure if this is the correct place for this post but here goes anyway.
I will soon be attempting to re-start my Excel after over a year of not being run due to carrying out some pretty slow work on it. What i'm wondering is, is there anything i should do before turning the key? I'll be putting some fresh fuel in it but do i need to drain the old fuel out? if so how? do i need to check for oil pressure first? if so how?
Any help or other tips would be much appreciated

I would put the spark out, dripp a little "splash" of oil in each bore.
Then turn the engine on starter motor for 30s or 1 minute (with the spraks plug on there leads not to burn the coil) : it will oil the cylinders and oil pressure will grow up.
After that you can put the sparks on and it will start on the button
New oil and new filter would be a good thing for sure.
Have a lot of pleasure and check your brakes before going on the road

Thanks for the quick reply, i'll give that a go first then. What do you think about the old fuel thats sat in the tank/carbs?
Luckily i am just finishing off a front brake overhaul and they look awesome, nice contrast of shiny silver discs, green pads, shiny black calipers, braided hoses and new brake pipes. Also reconditioned the master cylinder so touch wood the brakes should be ok.

Draining is a good thing as it can cause misfiring and deposit to block jets. A long ago I saw a car failing to run cause of old fuel that block the carbs : a pink gum evrywhere in the float chamber and jetsBoomer wrote:What do you think about the old fuel thats sat in the tank/carbs?
So advice to drain ... and change the fuel filter after doing some mileage.

iu changed plugs leads and drained and blew through the fuel lines after bym had sat for several months plus was of the road for 8 years then added forte fuel additive to a full tank of v power

Some Redex through the carburettors / fuel system should help to remove any lacquer or residues from degraded fuel - can be added to the new fuel.

Hello lads it'the jammy git from Wales
Blew my engine in June on the Welsh sprint but allwas not lost speeking nice to the wife [oi gime the key's to the family car] the responce was your not taking MY car out on the track, to late i was in scruteneering and it past a quick change of class into standerd production and out in the family car to save the weekend could not match my times in our Skoda VRS diesel on next to bold road tyres [by the time i 'd done 2 days I could see wires] well good wife did'nt want to see the Skoda on a hillclimbe so I was naged to get the Lotus repaired ,well £1300.00 for pistons+linings i'm not that stupid Ebay well One Excel 180 bhp red top, 7.5 ins compomotives, stainless ex, Lsd, buckets, vented grooved discs and loads more £500 bump start treiler home take out engine put into black beast run for a few days then race all weekend that soon clears out 4years of cobwebs at 7000 rpm's
