Thanks Ted
I'll line them up for the re-fit and am doing the 'o' ring tonight and have a thick one to do this and yours and previous threads have given me the strength to try it alone on this. I have a strobe I can borrow so will hope to keep the timing.
Thanks Peter K for the ...er....LECTURE.

Re: A proper tune up
Welcome to the "slow oil on startup club"
O-Ring didn't help in my case
I suspect OEM Oil filter is draining in the sump
Oil level to high in sump before startup.

Re: A proper tune up
Yes
The drain-back issue seems possible but the non- return valve should sort this. I notice some on this forum are unconvinced by how effective at control this is and I wonder myself. For me the drain back with my new Lotus original filter is negligable or so it would seem from my experiments to guage this.
It turned out after changing it at the w/e that it was O ring and I've replaced my worn and narrowish one with a fat new one. Oil pressure comes up about a second after start up and clattering goes about a second later. Phew, I can live with that.
Managed to keep the distributor position spot on after my expensive tuning as well.
