Mad Voltmeter/rev counter

For all those wiring gremlins we love, this is the place to discuss them.

Mad Voltmeter/rev counter

Post by johnthebass »

Hi Folks
For no apparent reason my voltmeter goes to zero and the revcounter goes beserk for a short while and then both return to normal. Can anyone tell me where the earthing point is for the dash instruments as I suspect it may have come loose. there is also an engine misfire at the same time. Could this also be an earthing problem?

Have a look at the connections to the alternator.

Checked all connections over the weekend and all ok! Just had the car in to Chris Foulds for a tune-up. Started to mis-fire on the overrun once the engine was hot. Stutters on light throttle but goes ok when accelerating hard, then mis-fires on the overrun. Chris suggested changing spark plugs and dis-connecting the rev limiter. Has anybody any ideas?? I'm due to go off on the Club Lotus "Lakes 31" run this weekend and I do not want to go in the wife's Eunos Roadster! Help! Oh and the rev counter wanders up to 7K and stays there for 5-10 secs.
