Need manual or wiring diagram

Hi everyone,

I need a wiring diagram for an Excel SE 1985. Specifically the rear lights are not coming on with the headlights. I also have an ignition problem on startup where the engine fires but needs to be coaxed over 2000 rpm to get going. Once going it is fine and runs perfectly. The battery voltage seems permanently low with ignition on 10V or so, but quickly gets up to 13V once it gets some revs. This is true even after charging the batterry overnight. Battery light comes on dim from time to time. It could be to do with the wretched laserline alarm system which failed recently, meaning that I have to run a wire from the battery to the fuel pump.

Incidentally I am about to put a '77 Elite on eBay which needs a respray and really needs a new interior, though it did pas an MOT a couple of years ago. It's an auto, which is very relaxing. I wasn't sure I would like it but you get Excel handling (it is so obviously from the same stable) without feeling that you constantly have to push it. If anyone's interested I am looking for something sub £1500 and my phone number is 07814 683472. I am in Somerset. I am also going to put the green Excel above up for sale when I have sorted out some of the gremlins. (Don't worry, I have another Excel and an S3 so I am not abandoning the marque.)

Hi Christian and welcome!

Try punting the elite in the for sale section, car and classic is also a good place for a motor like that, or the club lotus magazine.

In regards to the wiring diagram, if you contact Spav on here, for a contribution to the running of the website he will set you up with a login to the Lotus technical manual online - you can print off the pages you need for each job and won't worry about covering them in grease / oil / unleaded....
