Otter Switch

Mine failed how unusual and looking about I came across the new Kenlowe thermostatic switch. The probe goes into the fins of the radiator therefore you dont need to worry about breaking into the water ways to place the probe and sealing the system once you put the probe in the water ways. The switch itself has its own relay and fuses built in plus you have a feed for a manual overide switch which I fitted, so I can switch the fan on if needed. Very simple to fit

just had a dual stage one fitted to mine, fan 1 comes on at 98C, fan 2 at 105C
was having issues where the car was never getting over 79C even stationary traffic on a hot summers day!!!!

Hi, I am having problems with my otter switch Fan fail light on & temp when over 100 up & up
1988 sa with A/C
Ideas on best replacement on the market please

Demon Tweeks stock both this switch and a manual overide switch, came to £38 I think with next day delivery. Because the probe is just pushed into the radiator fins near the inlet hose it is a doodle to fit. Read the instructions, you cant take the power feed off of the coil, because of the electronic ignition Cheers Keith

Many thanks,I have ordered a Automatic Kenlowe Kit with relay , fuses & pre wired kit fits to rad due on Tuesday.
I have a older style one on my Classic 1978 MK2 Transit Motorhome which is still working which i use in the summer months.

I have one of these on order - where is best to take the power feed from?

Also did you have to drill through the fan shroud to fit the probe into the radiator?

hi guys. must admit i'd rather keep to the original 'Otter' switch but i appreciate other owners wishing to change. ive had two Reliant Scimitar GTE Se6b and a Se6a so have experienced the 'Otter' switch failure many times. however when its replaced - and i add with a new working one, as ive bought a few new ones that were faulty! - and you set it in with a new seal, theres rarely a problem. ive also had Triumph Stags and TR7's so im well aware of overheating cars! but u can usually sort them. i dont really like adding other cooling systems to whats already there to be honest but each to there own. regards all. Alex You don`t need to drill the surround the sensor just pushes into the radiator vanes. I took my power supply from the starter motor as that was the closest to the control unit. I disconnected the otter lines and taped them out of the way, if I went back to using that system the wiring is still in place. The blue wire on the control unit,(which you can see taped up in the picture) if I remember right is for controlling two fans as in the latter cars mine only has one. Hope that helps Keith

Thanks for that Keith. The unit arrived this morning, I have taken the bonnet off and am giving it a go. Mine has the two fans, and the surround goes right the way to the edges of the radiator. I have got the wire round the back of the shroud and pushed the sensor through the rad fins, out of the way of the fans. However, I cannot get access to the front of the radiator to secure the sensor, and the hole that resulted from pushing it through (which is a horrible thing to behold) is not a tight enough fit to give me piece of mind that the sensor will not get displaced, entangled in the fans and cause a horrible electrical mess of death.

I guess I'll come back to that one. Now to wire it up I think.

Hi Alex, If you're wiring in a replacement for the otter switch, including a capillary thermostat, there are two wires that connect to the otter switch, green and black. The green should provide you with a 12V feed.
