Otter Switch Woes Best replacement ideas

Hi All
Otter switch woes need relacement fan fail light on temp over 100.
1988 SA with A/C
Which is the best replacement on the market at present & suppliers
Also passenger door has stuck tonight can not open it .
Lock is open door will move only just away from striking plate stuck at the hinge end any ideas how to open the door please
Not having much luck at the moment

Hi Roger,
If the fan fail light is coming on when the temp gets high it suggests that the switch has tried to switch the fans on.
Check the fans relay just in case - it is in the block above the driver's right leg is used in some of the other positions. I carry a spare relay which also

i like many on here got rid of the otter, not at least as i had it blow out twice and dump water all over the road(in my young inexperience days) but also as i wanted to be able to adjust the temp from the cocpit.

throw away the OTTER and replace with one of these:

Electronic Temperature switch

It's a fit and forget item.. and no leaks to worry about. You can set whatever temperature you like for the fans to come on. I use 88C instead of the OTTERs 92C or so.

I have one on both the Excel and Clan to control the fans and they are 100% reliable (over the past 5 years anyway).

You will have to use the OTTER electrical feed (which IIRC is an earth sink) to operate the relay that comes with the kit. I fitted the relay to the inner front wing in the region of the purge pump. You can use a positive feed from the coil but there are other alternatives.

Hi i've got one of those demon tweeks style fan controllers that is surplus to my requirements since fitting efi and controling the fan from the ecu, if you are interested pm me and we could negotiate a price for it.

Do you know what size mm the top hose is on the 1987 excel or are they all a standard size ?

I think it's in the middle range about 32 or so...but i can't remember I'd have to...

In fact all you have to do (like I did) is measure the width of the top hose with a metric ruler to be sure!

I have ordered a kenlow due Tuesday.
Any idea how to hot wire to get a fan running temp until new part arrives ?
