Post by scrappyloz »

Thanks for all you help guys on my steering rack issue. Im hoping you can all help me again

Im in need of a leather interior for my 88 excel non se. I dont know what lotus were thinking putting the terrible cloth seats in that look like they came out of some kind of austin car.

Im after a full leather interior including headlining carpets dash etc as my headlining and carpets are missing and my dash is badly split.

Ive read about so many people removing theirs due to wanting to save weight that there has to a few bouncing around in peoples garages.

Thanks guys

Headlining is glued to the roof so you'll simply need a few metres of foam backed brushed nylon and a sewing machine (to put the joins in). The carpets are normally pretty well stuck so it's likely that by being removed they'll have been damaged. you can get carpet kits for £150 ish.

I looked at putting an Se type interior in my '85 non SE wide body. Because fitting the later door cards means fitting the later dash and that means altering the bean underneath the dash and various other bits I've opted for replacing the seats and rear quarter cards and then re-colouring the whole thing to one uniform colour.

If you're going to buy from there, could you do it through the club Amazon shop please (see my .sig) ? Then we'll get a few quid back to cover costs of things like the Club Lotus & NEC shows.

I think that's the supplier I ordered mine through, I went for champagne colour, but they do a wide variety of colours, you just need to ask fro samples in a certain range (fawn, brown, red, blue whatever your requirement is) and they do latex backed or hessian backed. The only issue I had (have, as I'm still in the process of fitting them) is that they didn't supply enough pieces, the piece for the front of the footwell was missing, but as I ordered spare carpet it doesn't matter), better to do the same.

Thanks for all the help so far guys. How much would an upholster charge to fit a headlining? I also need my sun visors to be retrimed at the same time as they are ripped to shreds as well. Its not the carpet thats the main problem, but the seats and door cards and dash. thanks loz

You can get all the materials from Woolies and do it yourself - it is not too difficult

the charge from a proffessional will be somewhere between £250 to £500
