Painting Citroen mirrors

Post by johnf »

I bought a couple of these new from CX Basis and I'm about to start painting them ... but they're plastic. Do you need a special plastic primer paint or does good old grey cellulose primer work ?

Thanks,

John

I think standard primer is OK - but you need to be scrupulous about getting them clean and bone dry before starting. Any moisture under the paint will soon bubble through and ruin the finish.

Some advice here :

I know its OT (but still related) but my 89SE drivers door mirror (citroen) has lost its "click stops" following repeated folding to prevent a passing knock...anyone else had this problem and is it an easy fix?

Back on topic...Halfrauds do a plastic primer in aerosols...used the red version on the Clan spoiler and it seems to work OK.

I had that - there's a sprung bracket inside that can fall off.

You need to dismantle the whole mirror though.

Thanks, I'll give it a bash with soap and water, iso propyl and acetone for good measure.

DOH, I cut and pasted this from the other forum, but it doesn't seem to have worked.

You guys are probably more IT lit than me, can someone correct the link?

Thanks for the links

I think I'll do as he says and just live with the broken clip...the mirror stays put beyond 120 mph so no worries.

It's not a bad job. My ratchet clip had broken off but was rattling around inside the mirror. I reattached it with araldite and it works fine now - it's held up for 2 years like that.
