Over the year, the Excel has had quite a few mentions - mostly complimentary : http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sitese ... ionId=1130

SORN - just say NO!

For those who don't read the Sunday Times here's the jist of article:-

AA from South London has bought an 1988 Excel that has been off the road for 18 months. Can't find a replacement for or alternative for a faulty electronic ignition amplifier.

The clinic say the Excel is an underrated car that is often passed over for its flashier and more expensive contemporary sibling, the Esprit. Nonetheless, with its four seats, the Excel gives sports car performance and handling with saloon car practicality. They contacted Paul Matty, London dealer, who said they could supply the part for £172.50 but pointed out that often its not the problem and that the base plate for the distributor can give similar symptoms but can be replaced for £68.

They state that classic car fans can often benefit by joining an owners club for tech and parts advice. They then suggest www.club-lotus.co.uk and www.lotusexcel.co.uk for starters.

Hopefully the owner will join up here also.
