I'm going to re-colour my Excel's leather with a Woolies kit soon.
I intend to take the front and rear seats out along with the door cards but I'm wondering about the dashboard and centre console. I'd like to ask Fred, or anyone else in the know, how easy/difficult is it to get these parts out ? I would like to take the black instrument pod out at least.
I've got a feeling that taking the main dashboard out may more trouble than its worth.

It's actually not too difficult, starting with the rear seat, then dismantle and unscre the centre console, then the pod, this takes a little while the first time but if you look at the parts manual it's obvious.
Then remove the screws holding the dash near each door, this allows room to remove the screw holding the centre console to the dash on the passenger side. Then both lift out.
Just think about it methodically and it should be fine. I'll post further details if you need them.

Just one comment, when you get the dash out, the lower bits are unsupported and "Floppy", I screwed a 2"X1" peice of wood along the bottom, through the existing holes.
It makes it a lot easier to move around.
Make sure you look at the Parts diagram, so you know where all the scews and bolts are.

I took advantage of the warm weather yesterday to re-colour the leather in my car. I used the same magnolia Woolies stuff as Fred and was also very happy with the results.
I gave most parts a minimum of three coats with really heavily stained or creased parts taking up to six coats. As the ambient temperature was quite high it took around 20-30 minutes for each coat to dry. I was particularly impressed with the way it coped with some nasty creases on the seat edge caused by the seat flexing as it tips forward. The surface finish on the creased areas had gone but the dye filled them in making them almost invisible.
I too found that, despite what the instructions say, the dye is useless when applied by anything other than an airbrush. No doubt the very light magnolia colour didn't help - it must be the worst colour to work with.
So if the finish proves durable I will remain a very happy customer.
