Is it right that its meant to be used for V belts, says on the net not suitable for timeing belts? also instructions are for timeing V belts
Also do u know the tension for V belts and where to measure from ?
thanks again Mark
Mark,
Take a look at this old thread.
http://www.lotusexcel.net/phpbb/viewtop ... ght=krikit
As a general rule of thumb, I would not trust the gauge to read correctly when used on any old cam belt, simply because the manufaturers do not recommend it.
However, in the case of the Lotus engine the equivalence of the Krikit gauge readings and the Burroughs gauge readings is well known, and therefore the Krikit can be used with reasonable confidence. If unhappy with this, get your belt tensioned by a dealer with a Burroughs gauge, then check the reading your Krikit gives. This will enable you to set the tension in future with the Krikit.
BTW, you must always tension the belt on a stone-cold engine i.e. left off overnight. Being aluminium, the engine expands quite a lot when warm, which will affect the tension of the cambelt.
