Looks like nice workmanship https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGerZxCxgys
If it were mine I think I'd add a black stripe along where the body join strip would be on a standard car and ditch those wheels for some silver ones. I hate black wheels

Got to say, not too impressed with the 1200kg.

Take a classic car, remove the iconic gluejoint, and then spoil it even more with all the crap of current cars like electric doorhandles, no buttons, screens instead of proper dials, ugly lights, electric handbrake, etc. Not for me

I sort of like it because it's carbon. I don't like the interior -prefer dials and buttons, Not keen on the wheels.
If I was modding an S1 it would be in carbon, but have a high revving (9000 rpm), high compression, 2.5L LotusBits engine with light pistons, titanium rods, steel crank and lightened flywheel. Close ratio 5 speed gears (top not overdriven) -18 mph/1000 rpm in top (3.8Krpm =70, 5.5Krpm =100, 8.9krpm =160mph). Front spoiler must be BLACK, I hate the white spoiler on the S1. Uprated brakes, and better driveshaft joints. I'd keep the Wolfrace wheel design (just lighter) and keep the high profile tyres.

Re: New Esprit Encore restomod
steel flywheel please, apart from the 9000 rpm bit, it sounds so much better when startingLotus-e-Clan wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 19:13 I sort of like it because it's carbon. I don't like the interior -prefer dials and buttons, Not keen on the wheels.

Re: New Esprit Encore restomod
My 89se has a very light steel flywheel. Noticeably quicker revving. The best bit is engine switch off.. stops dead. Clutch take up is more direct compared to the Flexi flywheel.
Also specific to the SE: the engine management cold advance runs at higher rpm than normal (2+krpm). Forged piston slap when cold seems more noticeable \ variable (gone by 40±C engine temp and thinner cold oil grade seems to mitigate).

I know Encor are only planning on making 50 of these but I can't see there being that many "money no object" multi millionaires who are interested in buying a heavily modified Lotus. I imagine the super rich, who often have more money than taste, would just think the Encor hasn't enough bling or cachet.

I understand the Radford (Ant Anstead / Jenson Button ) Lotus Type 62 tribute (built on modified Exige running gear) has gone under. They were to be similar, if not slightly more money. Won their class in a competition version at Pikes Peak Hill Climb first through....
