After some digging I found this on a microsoft website.
You're definitely not alone—many users who upgraded to Microsoft 365 Personal for photo storage and embedding are currently facing the same issue. I’ve looked into this quite a bit, and here’s what I’ve found that might help:
Current Status (as of July 2025)
• The "Embed" option in OneDrive is missing or broken for many users, even with personal accounts (which are supposed to support embedding).
• Previously, you could generate an embed code to display images directly in forums or blogs. Now, the links often download the image instead of displaying it.
• This issue seems to have started around May–June 2025, and unfortunately, Microsoft hasn’t provided a fix or timeline yet.
Did You Buy the Wrong Product?
Not necessarily. Microsoft 365 Personal is the correct subscription for personal use and photo backup. The problem is that the embed functionality is currently unreliable, even for users with the right plan.
What You Can Try
Here are a few workarounds that have helped others:
Use the “Share” link instead:
• Right-click the photo in OneDrive > Share > Copy link.
• This won’t embed the image directly, but it allows others to view it.
Try different browsers or incognito mode:
• Some users have reported that the embed option reappears when using incognito mode or switching browsers.
Use alternative image hosts:
• For embedding in forums, I recommend using Imgur, Postimages, or Google Photos with public sharing enabled. These platforms are more reliable for direct image embedding.
Report the issue to Microsoft:
• The more feedback they receive, the higher the chance it gets prioritized. You can submit feedback via the OneDrive support page.
I do not have an embedded option so Ive already tried there other options, clearly they dont work either.

Re: Embedded Photos
I had a ticket logged with them and the answer was nothing wrong. Obviously there is!
Onedrive working for new images at the moment but not so for older ones.
Now have dropbox on standby as a second medium.

Re: Embedded Photos
As I have stated a few times the embed option is only there if you navigate to the file by the my files option or icon not the picture option / icon.

Re: Embedded Photos
After botoPhucket stopped supporting forum posting and held my images hostage unless I paid years ago, I started using Imgur as a free image hosting service. Its not like I post a lot of images, just technical how-to stuff to help others on this and the CelicaSupra and Jaguar forums, so I never wanted to pay for a photo hosting subscription. It seemed to work good for several years, but lately I have found Imgur to be offline quite frequently, sometimes with ominous sounding messages like they were not just down for routine maintenance. Most recently, I used Dropbox to post the mirror cover how-to here because I was already paying for it for work purposes. Dropbox is not really set up to be an image hosting service tho, but it seemed to work.

Re: Embedded Photos
I've tried the my files option, the embed function still doesn't appear for me, could be operator error or my old android phone I don't know but it is very annoying.
As an aside, Richard kindly put a lot of images from fbook on the calendar post that I could see a couple of days ago but cant now but I can see his latest post after that.

Re: Embedded Photos
I'm a MS365 subscriber, so I wouldn't expect an access issue, but there's definitely something wrong. Currently, when I right-click over a photo within a 1drive folder and chose "View Online", the browser opens, but the photos don't display within the browser. In fact, NONE of my OneDrive photos display within the browser. The Folders are present, but the thumbnails are filenames only. Reported to MS.
