éclat rear wheel cylinder and auto adjuster arm replacement

Post by Alan_M »

I have a leaking rear wheel brake cylinder.

Looking at it I’m guessing this a diff out job?

If it is any hints and tips for a successful removal, and what else am I likely to need to replace.

In addition to leaking cylinder I noticed the spring loaded arm that stops/allows the auto adjuster to rotate has snapped and missing on one side.
I can’t find this part listed anywhere in parts manual or on SJ - is it part of the backplate?

There were originally two sizes (piston diameters) available for the wheel cylinder depending on manual or auto transmission. As far as I know there is now only one. I may have a spare auto adjuster lever - I'll dig out some bits. The wheel cylinder is held in place with a sliding horseshoe-shaped clip at the back of the brake plate - I doubt you can get to it without removing the diff, but I stand to be corrected. Anyway - it will be a good opportunity to sort the handbrake gubbins!
