Wiper wheel box mount

Post by Hawaiis0 »

Hi All

Just pulled the wiper motor and gubbings out the refurb car and there is no steady bracket present as shown in the parts manual.

Is this a late addition or lost by PO?

PS - what's the least disassembly done by anyone in getting the motor out on a fully dressed car?

My car ( very late one) had no steady also.
I don't know, but I suspect it looked great in the design stage, was a mare to fit and made replacement impossible so very early on they simply stopped fitting it.

I did my motor and wheel box just by taking the instrument panel out. If the black binnacle has been removed before, this would make job easier, but is not essential.

My 85 SE didn’t have the extra bracket.
The same as Tony, just remove the instruments and work through the hole to remove.

Hopefully you pulled a sting/ wire in. Much easier refit and ensures drive goes the same side of the N/s bonnet pull.

I've managed to reach, remove, "improve" and refit the electrical connector to the motor without disassembling anything, just adopting the "Lotus position", head-torch, and feel. Don't think that quite counts though.

Well under 4 hours and wiper motor is swapped out. Not bad I think. The wiper froze as though jammed so had to investigate.

Tied a line to the spindle as per instructions

Here is the idents for ref:

Wheel box number is off an XJS - 72965B

Useful to have a second car in bits

Nice job Stu. Interesting to know about the XJS wheelbox.

Yes, but I'm more interested by the Mercedes emblem on the motor!

You'd need to rotate it 60° :D

Well done. LB just replaced my Excel wiper motor & they quote 4 hours for this, so you did it just as quickly as the pro's.

£90/hr for labour & £120 for the refurb motor, if anyone's interested, then VAT on top.
