Is that your original torque converter or did you get a reconditioned one?

I'm not sure as it says modified TC on the invoice. Holes appear to align at first check.

Is that the strap fitted by Ashcroft?

Shopping List of needs is growing.

Popped in to LotusBits in passing, for a new thermostat and gasket (and a replacement housing - dont ask). My new old bottom draw supply thermostat was the wrong one and was too tall for the housing.

Rob, LB's new spares guy sorted me out.

Also, had a rummage around the upstairs stock shelves like a kid in a sweet shop.

New A/c condenser and steering hoses caught my eye, amongst things. As well as a shiny refurbed diff.

Found malt vinegar to be a very good cleaner of rusty parts, plus cheap at 30p a pint. Air Con condenser brackets came up lovely, but it doesn't straighten studs!


The Thermostat housing was looking a little tired so wire brushed it

Fitted a crank position sensor in readiness for the undecided ignition system.

Dismantled the carbs ready for refurbishment. Looking well used at the moment

Removed the lower UJ off the steering column as I thought there was some lash. It was absolutely shot!
Have a post 86 replacement of a beefier design so may have had an earlier version (incorrect one) installed. Design fits SJ's prior and post images

And finally for tonight, we have the rack on the carpet. There is no way that comes out the wheel well! (Some will disagree)
Note most of the anti seize coating has been removed

Piranha system removal.

Don't know if I have done it right as cant test the electrics.

Central locking not working I still but I still have the door wiring to work and to remove the alarm box and tilt sensor from the engine bay

Running out of storage room for removed parts!



Binnacle seen better days, so got a replacement from Lotusbits. Used some Furniture Clinic Re-colouring Balm (Black) on it. Impressed by the stuff.

Found a weird green/black wire running from either side of the engine bay. Turns out to be jumper for the Central Locking due to a broken wire in the left door. Reconnected the RH yellow ancillary cables as per book and made a new yellow from the LDHC (could not get into the taped loom without full breakdown).

That's a sight I've seen twice in the last 14 months! Enjoy getting the centre dash vents re-connected to their ducts
