For those who didn't attend, the parts unsold after the weeks sale (they sold about a 5th of the total number) will shortly go on the Lotus website.

Jimmy, you picked the right man for the job as Dan was there for you at 5.55am!!

I was just leaving London at that time and had to get there quick after a call for help from the Lotus guys for me and Bibs (LEF owner) saying that they had queues 2 hours befor actual opening time.

Still, was good to look around on the tour and get some bargains!

Fred .. T-cut ..

Now all we need is Lotus to do a "respray special offer" for those of us mad enough to own a Lotus from the mid / late 80's with the lacquer flaking off ...

Imagine the sh*t Ford or Vauxhall would've got for the same crap paint / process!!! Even if you never wash or polish a mondeo, the paint stays on!

People assume that someone threw paint-stripper on my car .. I have to correct them .. oh no, the paint falls off all on it's own - just watch for a minute and you'll see!

It looks even worse parked next to the Esprit .. which hopefully wont suffer the same problem!

Rant over .. I feel better now ..

Don't park the Esprit too close to the Excel then, it might get infected, too...

I have to say the paint on the Esprit (calypso red) is outstanding, still bright red as on the first day. Not too bad for an 20y old lady.
Paint on the Excel is still shiny, a few stress cracks and one or two places where the clear coat is dissapearing...

My Excel lives outside these days, perhaps that's the problem ... sun / frost etc. Lotus also switched to water based paints in the late 80's .. so perhaps the paints weren't so good for a while.

Some bodyshops believe they just left too long between spraying the base and clear coats so they didn't bond together properly - given the way the lacquer lifts, I can believe that!

The rear bumper was resprayed around 12 years ago, and that is perfect - that tends to imply some issue with the original paint / process.
