sudden momentary power loss

Post by shaunw »

Ive been working through ignition and vacuum stuff on my car and have achieved really good improvements in smoothness and hesitation problems. However one very occasional problem remains and I can't figure out whether its ignition, vacuum or fuel related. Because the problem is very occasional (twice in 3 months!) it's been hard to trace.

When the throttle is pressed on pulling away from a standing start, after about a second there is total power loss (the sort where your head shoots forward) for about a second and then everything is fine. This only ever happens once :?

Any ideas anyone?

Regards

Shaun

sounds like the revlimiter starting to brake down (black box on inner wing).

I also get the same stutter very occasionally but have always put it down to a characteristic of the carburetors.Have owned my 88 SE over 10 years and had carbs balanced and tuned a few times and played around with timing. Other than that car runs very smooth and is very responsive so have never worried about it.
