Anyone speak French and know a bit about Elites?

Post by Skeggy »

Afternoon folks,

A guy has emailed me from my website only problem is he speaks French and I don't!

He has used a computer translator (Google?) but I'm not sure it would be best from me to reply that way in case I end up giving him the wrong information.

This is what he sent after I asked him to email me in French:

Bonjour, j’ai changé la courroie de distribution, mais je n’ai pas l’information pour vérifier le point d’allumage ! Combien de mm par rapport au marquage sur la poulie moteur ?

J’ai acheté une Eclat que je pensais roulante… mais bonjour le piège … Système de refroidissement out, courroies out, filtres out, carburateurs (Weber) dévissés, circuit électrique HS, pneus fissurés. etc, etc.

J’essaie de remettre les choses en ordre une par une …

Merci de votre aide.

Alain

Hello, I changed the timing belt, but I did not have the information to check the ignition point! How many mm relative to the marking on the pulley motor?
I bought a Eclat I thought rolling ... but hello ... trap cooling system out, belting out, out filters, carburetors (Weber) unscrewed, electrical circuit HS, cracked tires. etc., etc..
I try to put things in order one by one ...
Thank you for your help.
Alain

If anyone is better qualified to help I'll point to here.......if someone tells me how to do it in French!

seems pretty good translated. The only part which is not complete clear, but doesn´t help for his question: He thought, that he have bought a car which runs... instead of an engine with the most subitems missing/not aligned.

Don,

That pretty much what I was thinking, also he contacted me from my website http://www.benani.co.uk which is about Excels not Elites. I wonder if he has an Excel not an Elite?

Whatever, he has a Lotus so I would like to help!

Looks like he bought a project instead of a running car, with a lot of work under the bonnet.

Seems like he wants to know how to set up the ignition.

OK, seems like he's changed the timing belt, but isn't sure how to set the ignition timing correctly, I think he just wants to know how much advance it should be set to. I'm too new to Excels to know the right advice, but if someone else wants to write down the method I'll make a ham-fisted attempt to translate it into French.

"mais bonjour le piège..." would translate better as "but here's the catch..."

"Système de refroidissement out" clearly means "air-con not working"

Otherwise I'd say Google Translate has done a reasonable job there.

Do you know where he lives? If it is near Geneva or Annecy I may be able to get some help to him.

Thanks for the replies.

In his first email he says it's a 2 litre Elite so my info about 2.2 Excel engines will not be correct. I've had no luck with finding the right info.

His website http://www.bmway.org/ - don't know if that give his location!

I say his website simply because it's his email address - but I could be wrong, my wife tells me I am wrong quite often...but thats another subject!
