i believe this only applies if you have a photocard, if you dont, you dont need it updated? can anyone confirm?

I got a photocard-license a few years ago, very hand form of ID as you can keep it in your wallet, unlike a passport. But it's a misnomer because you still have a single A4 paper form that accompanies it - and hire car companies, insurance agencies and the like still need to see this form because that's the only place any endorsements are recorded. If you don't have the paper form some places will phone up the DVLA to check on your record. A lot of hassle considering you've paid £17.50 for the privilege.

I still use my paper copy for ID purposes, car hire, etc. I dont know if you have to change it, although I will need to one day as it is starting to fall to pieces anyway. A bit like my excel.

There's no legal requirement to have a photocard - they just force one on you whenever you have to update your details.

Still - at least it's free with a change of address.

They are also free when you replace for medical reasons.
