I'll start

* Front and rear brakes and hubs (with some modification to backplates)
* rear axle
* rear drive shafts
* wheels (if we're talking early excel)
* gearbox
* Some aircon bits (if we're talking later excel)
* Steering column and stalks
* door handles (inside)

Have I missed anything?

shame you cant pop the wheel arches off it to give the excel a wide body kit

I considered putting a LSD in recently, but then wondered because only some of the Supras had LSD, and only some of them had live rear axles, a lot has independent rear suspension, so not the same as ours.

Do we know if the Supra LSD from an independent one would fit in the live rear axle?

Do we know if the more powerful ones with LSD had live rear axles?

Yes it's a straight swap for Mk 2 Supras. Lots of postings on this topic on this and other forum. Search on LSD, diff or axle

Don't forget the hubs and output shafts. It's quite possible to get the car, strip it in one weekend, take all the stuff to use on the Excel, and sell the rest for more than you paid for it.

I've done this, but it only cost £70, and the engine was OK.

What will go first is the digital dashboard if it's OK, 'cos they all go wrong.

P.S. There does'nt seem to any rhyme or reason to the fitting of the LSD's on Supras, they look identical from the outside, just a stcker saying, use LSD oil only, (P.S. don't buy this special oil from BMW, it was four times the price than from a Rolls Royce agent!!!!).

the driveshafts are too short from the supra, the CV joints are the same tho.

Driveshafts, It Depends on age of Excel.

The Supra ones are the same as pre-87 excels, but when the rear susp. was modified, the driveshaft length was increased.

I found this out the hard way by trying to put some carefully painted shafts from my old '86 SE onto my '89 one.

Similar stupidity, I really must buy a tape measure. I very carefully rebuilt and repainted the driveshafts from a supra when I fitted the LSD, looked good, but practically useless ( like me ! ). The old supra shaft and the excel shaft can be seen on this photo, theres about , from memory, a 30mm difference in length. ( 85 CelicaSupra to 86 Excel se 0

are you sure about the length of 86 and 89 driveshafts, i have 86 se driveshafts on an 89my model and they fit no problem, the only difference on the 89 rear suspension is the camber due to different top links.(i know the shocks fit different and the rear hoop is different but this does not effect the driveshaft length by any substantial amount as the bottom links are the same on both models.

Definately, although I don't know when they changed.

My original one was C-reg, so might have been '85.

Shafts identical to Supra, but when I tried to fit these to .89, no go.

When did the rear locating bars change length?

I assume it changed from then.

Hate to state the obvious, but these driveshafts, aren't they designed to have some lateral movement along thir splines? Is it possible that when we're talking different lengths we might be comparing an extended one to a contracted one?

Just seems strange that Lotus would go to all the trouble of manufacturing a modified Supra one....

Yep, they do slide a bit. But the Celica shaft is shorter by some margin. Imagine my glee when I bolted the shiney drive shaft to the diff and then tried to do the same at the hub only to find that it wouldnt even reach the hub. Even on full spline extension there was a gap of about 12mm. What joy, I danced and danced. ( translation-I threw my tools around the garage ( dummy and pram sindrome ), shut the garage door and had a drink of coffee till I calmed down !

Were they Celica? Or Supra? Perhaps that's the difference? Latter may have a slightly wider rear track?
