SA Gear lever

Post by Will49 »

The button, well trigger that you pull up to move the gear lever, is just floppy and requires gravity to make it go down. Is this as it should be I wonder as it feels like this should be spring loaded.
Any SAers out there know the answer?
Thanks
Will

ISTR there is a bit of spring steel in there to push the trigger back - broken/missing?

Yes,there is definitely a spring that presses the steel rod downwards into the selector detents. I think it’s the same selector used on Land Rovers and BMWs of a similar vintage, so you might find a part there.

The BMW lever is leather- covered, much more pleasant to the touch than the hard plastic of the original. I don:t regret changing mine!

From memory, it is the BMW 5 series E34, around 1987-1990.
