New VED charges
Just got my road tax reminder and I see that we have been put into the “k” band at £325 which is a massive increase from ( I think) £225 under the previous system.
Is this correct - what is the actual spec g/km for the 2.2 engine ?
Seems to me they have just made an assumption that should be challenged.
If it is correct then I’ll just sorn for the 6 months of winter - Laffer curve in real time…..I save £65 , government loses £65…..

Re: New VED charges
yup - but not as bad as when my wife was applying for citizenship, went from £250 to £950 overnight (2012ish). Not as if you can complain.

Re: New VED charges
My tax was £280 in 2021, £325 in 2023, so increasing yes, but not massively. I'm not aware of any change in how it's calculating.Dcplug wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 13:27Just got my road tax reminder and I see that we have been put into the “k” band at £325 which is a massive increase from ( I think) £225 under the previous system.

Now I wait for those fortunate's with an early car to tell us their tax costs nothing . I've got to wait another 9 years !!!

Re: New VED charges
Someone get a petition going: The VED fee should be based on weight (first 1,000 KG is free), & people with grey cars pay double.

We are all paying through the nose because they are loosing money every time someone buys an electric car. You know one of those very heavy cars that wears the roads out, bonkers

Re: New VED charges
My wife will only get another year of free road tax on her electric car; they will start paying too in 2025.

Re: New VED charges
And, to make matters worse, massive instant torque from zero revs means EVs do even more damage to road surfaces than a petrol or diesel vehicle of the same weight. Tyres wear more too for same reason...instant torque. Yes, EV engineers can limit torque on take off, but they'd be wrong to believe they can remotely control surface damage for all operating environments, driver attitudes, and competencies.

Chances of the rolling exemption being in place then are very slim, with the idiot party in power imploding and the woke Eco mentalist party likely to replace them.MetBlue wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 21:35]
