Power Steering Pump

Post by mudmover »

My Holbourn power steering pump is leaking through it's front seal. Tried Lucas additive etc with no improvement.
Rather than going to the considerable expense of an exchange rebuilt pump, is it possible to convert to the later Saginaw type pump?
I was considering using the mounting bracket available for the later S4 Esprit, and a pump from the RWD Sierra Cosworth.
The existing high pressure hose could be modified to fit the Ford pump. Overall, I think this would be considerably cheaper.
I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

You might want to consider moving to an electrically powered hydraulic pump - check this thread out:

If you end up sticking with the original pump, I've recently replaced my Holbourn pump with a re-conditioned unit from LB for £192 + vat when the pump seized two weeks ago.
