Merlin Motorsports sell Alloy header tanks for around 60 quids that look OK.

Id keep the original, take it off and slosh some rust converter around in there and make sure the capilliary tube is clear. It sounds like you need an antifreeze change before it gets cold again. If you do that it should keep ok. I think that the lotus tanks are quite well designed and work well so why change it. (This is from somebody who has changed lots, including a different engine, but Ive still retained the lotus header tank so Im quite prepared to be shot down)

For Bash. I also prefer the original, just that alloy tanks at 230 odd quids is a bit steep.
The twin tank on the later Excels is always a talking point, sadly I don´t know why they are double, and anyway my 85 car only has a single tank.

The double style tank increases the head of coolant because the main tank is always full.
