Loads of work done.

Post by exceliom »

Managed to remove the Phiranna alarm and the Toad immobilizer. Fair play to the original installers the done a fantastic job, even using the factory colour coding on the wiring to disguise the installation.
Then move on to adding some Butale sound insulation which will be topped off with closed-cell foam.
Back to the outside, sanded the worst areas with red Scocth brite then compound with G3.
Early start tomorrow to finish the paintwork and complete the interior rip out.

Good move removing the alarm/immobiliser stuff. Paintwork must need some serious attention - Scotchbrite!! . Yep - photos needed!

Hey Pete.
I'm, doing this resto in the local carpark so limited recourses.
It seems quite difficult to add photos from google photos, advice needed heros.

On a positive spin, the carpark is part of the local pub and it has amaturer garage at the bottom (men in sheds sota gig).
Also I've owned the car for about 12 years and would like to evolve it to a daily driver.

I think a lot of us now use OneDrive for adding photos - there's a good guide here - viewtopic.php?p=89481#p89481. Restoring a car without lots of facilities sounds challenging! Getting it sorted as a daily driver driver sounds like a great plan though. Looking forward to see it!

Is it worth rebuilding the calipers or just get recon units?

Many have done self refurbs with good results, others use BIGRED and others go for straight swap.

A few also go for big brake upgrade using 4 or 6 pot calliper's

So, just got the wheels back with new paint and tyres (OZ wheels) they look fantastic in a darker silver.
Jacked the car up on truck axel stands, so that I can address the previous exhaust issues.
Noticed that the boots on the top and bottom ball joints have perished and a broken spring. New parts ordered already but because I'm in this deep, was thinking of a front poly bush kit ( already posted on a separate topic ).
The wheels look great tho......
Must try and remember to take some photos...

The silver stuff is equivalent to one of the primary brands, butale rubber backed with foil and then a closed-cell 6mm foam on top. probably overkill but won't soak like the original sponge, as regards soundproofing id doubt if there's any benefit except adding extra weight.
Also added the new carpet just before it rained.
Oh put the seat in place and pulled the seat cover over it, your all probably going to have an opinion on the covers, but I. think they look, class.
