Ollie’s Funeral request for cars

Post by Alan_M »

I have just seen a request on Facebook for Lotus cars, especially Elite, Eclat and Excel for a rolling tribute at Ollie’s funeral.

Can anyone who would like to bring their car to Oliver’s funeral on 3 December at 12.00 at Wymondham Abbey please post here or message me. Due to lockdown restrictions attendance at the service is limited to 30 people but if you want to cruise round Wymondham that will be fine! I am finding out from the funeral directors whether there may be an opportunity for a few cars to follow the cortège.

Finally, I understand the family may arrange a memorial service next year once restrictions are lifted so everyone can pay their respects.

Thanks, Richard

Unfortunately I can’t do this as I have a work commitment I can’t get out of and being in Wales would be illegal for me to travel into England for this purpose.

Let’s hope after this current situation is over there will be another opportunity to Mark Ollie’s life and contribution to the world of motoring in general and Lotus in particular.

Hoping to be along for this.
In tier2 so good on that front. Just need minor rearrangement for Thursday to be confirmed, then I'm in.

Hope you can join us Tony! I’ll pm you my mobile number. Stu already has it I think.

Arrangements for joining the guard of honour are as follows:

Rendezvous at Ketts Park, Wymondham at 11.30 am. We will follow the cortège to the Abbey, and the cars may remain outside during the service.

Postcode for Ketts Park is NR18 0PH.

Cheers, Richard

If you do get sorted Tony, I'll navigate my way via a suitable rendezvous point if you wish.

Stu. Would your best route take you via Bedford?. If not, sure it will pass just north of Cambridge on A14?
Shortest for me is via Kettering, then A14 all the way, but Bedford only adds 10 minutes.

Assuming I pass the MOT, why don’t we all meet at Cambridge Services on the A14 at around 10.00? We’ll need to leave by around 10.15 to be there in time.

Sounds a plan. Can you send post code just so we get the right one.
I've been on car repair duty today. Had a small water leak for a while now, but I think I'm now know where it is and can fix before Thursday.

I'll be there, travelling up from Newbury the day before, via Oxford / Bedford / St.Neots.

When I'm not driving, I do funerals, as a Humanist funerals celebrant.
Does anyone know if Oliver a) had any religion b) had a favourite colour?

If we happened to be parked up when the funeral cortege passes, and it's not inappropriate or too cheesey, we could consider retracting the cars' headlights, along the lines of the famous dockers' cranes salute to Churchill's cortege in 1965: https://youtu.be/6kPrTWsotlg
