Peter James Insurance price hike

Post by Lotus-e-Clan »

Just got a renewal quote from PeterJames with near £200 uplift on last year for a 3 vehicle policy as they changed the underwriter! Phoned them and they can't improve it.

Point is they want nearly £600 for 3 vehicles (Lotus Clan and Camper) compared to £460 for FOUR vehicles last year when the Smart roadster was on the policy!!

:?: Any current recommendations for shopping around?

I use Routen Chaplin for my Elite restoration project - might be worth giving them a call. I was given their details by a fellow Lotus owner who worked for them.

That’s a bit rich as claims will have been well down this year due to the restrictions. I use Adrian Flux - previously with Routen Chaplin but left after a price hike.

Cheers, Richard

I've been with RH Specialist Insurance for the last 5 years or so - always competitive so I haven't felt the need to move around. Funnily enough I left Peter James for them too.

Give Adrian Flux Insurance a try Peter. I've used them for years and found their prices to be very good. They insure me for commuting in the Excel which a lot of companies won't entertain. I also found their service to be very good when my previous Excel was written off and the other party attempted to dodge liability.

Footman James for my Excel and Esprit - £300 a year for both, with agreed values and a 10,000 mile joint limit - including commuting for both cars. I've been with them for all bar one year since 1991.

Thanks for the advice.

Going to ring round all recommendations tomorrow and report back here.

Insurance folk are in the same league as journalists, estate agents, politicians, bankers, lawyers, vampires and parasites in my book, so I guess there will be quite a lot of variation in blood loss ... dependent on mass, thirst and the time of day!

Peter, I have to say how offended I am by your remark. I used to be a journalist before I opened my estate agency and I can tell you I currently have many satisfied clients. I also intend to stand for Parliament at the next general election in 2024.

Last year my wife left a successful career in banking to take up a position with a leading law firm. My pet bat Desmond, due to an accident of birth, is of the genus Desmodus rotundus. My uncle is a parasite.

Im also offended, surely ex police officers should be on the list. I worked extremely hard at being a professional knob for over 29 years. Could you please edit your list and include me.

Unlike myself of course. I'm a haematologist (honest)... I'm a professional blood-sucker!

BTW Kev. That was so well-written I honestly believed you were going into politics!

Didn't have the head space to ring around for insurance today!

Replaced one front disc/pads on the daughters Prius. Too cold to do the other side...tomorrow it's set to be sunny..so it can wait.

She was quoted by the Toyota main dealer (where she has a service plan) that it would cost £1600 to get it serviced and MOT'd!
Failure items:
  • Front brakes (Discs) + Advisory on Rears £450
    Front suspension (speed bumps) £550
    Front Tyre damage (Kerbs) £220
Missing heat shield under petrol tank (new MOT regulation) £180
    MOT fail + retest: £70
Misc. additional service items (bulbs, wipers, oils, filters etc) £130
So she pulled it and rebooked the MOT for this Friday in another garage.

I kid you not - I found the front discs worn but SERVICEABLE (no scoring) and the although the pads were quite worn, I cannot see the justification for failure on discs or pads.

I'm helping her out by replacing the front brakes (2 discs/Pads £90).

We'll see what the other garage finds on Friday. But I do suspect the Toyota dealer mechanics have been told to make some money for 'the firm'.

Perhaps main dealer mechanics should be added to the blood-sucking list!
