Great result Osku . Does it help see the instrument panel better as well? How about a photo from your seated position?

And besides the instruments being visible it has a deeper dish so I won't hit my finger on the dash and no spacer needed hench.

That's looking terrific Osku. very professional installation
I like the look and feel of a thicker rim and certainly gives nice view of Instruments.

That's a huge improvement! Looks like a factory fit. I'm with Tony on the thicker rim as well.

Great result Osku! I agree with the others - that’s how it should have come out of the factory.

Been driving the car now with the new stering wheel and its almost perfect. The blinker and wiper stalks are maby a bit far from the wheel so I will adress that next winter but its all in all a huge improvement allready.
Most likely I will schim some more angle to them. I want to do it so that it is reversable just so I do not ruin the orginality.

Hi I would like to get some statistic on the oilpressure on the 2.2 engine as I'm buying an Esprit at the moment and just want to evaluate the condition a bit from that. So here is what my excel have:
Warm engine:
2500 rpm 50Lb/inch^2
1000 rpm 20Lb/inch^2
I know that the meeters might differ a lot but thats excactly why I ask to geta feel when to worry by according to the orginal cauge. Normaly on any engine I worry when the idle pressure drops under 0,3 bar and operatin pressure (2500) of 2,5 bar but at least Lotus seems to have a much higher idle pressure still the operating pressure is not that high and hench I have to recalibrate what is normal for this engine type.

Re: 83 Excel from from Finland
So tell me boys and girls what does your engine read when you use it.
Re: 83 Excel from from Finland
I'm interested in all 2.2 engine values no mater if it is the older or newer and no mater if it is mounted in an Excel or an Esprit.

Re: 83 Excel from from Finland
well the pressure depends on temperature ( I have an oil temp guage instead of a cock) and oil type:
Valvoline VR1 5w/50 synthetic when new
Valvoline VR1 5w/50 synthetic when new
oil temp C ....... 1000 rpm ................. 3000 rpm
Cold <15 ................ 6+ bar ......................... 7 bar
warm 50 ................. 3.5 - 4 bar .................. 4.5- 5 bar
v. hot 95 ................. 1.5 -2 bar ................... 4 bar

You have right i run 5-50 weight and 75deg with those numbers.
My engine from the excel I will rebuild when I get the Esprit bought and have run it sufficiently to thrust it.
Are the numbers you quote realy Bar, or PSI?
And is that with the orginal cauge?

Those figures above are indeed Bar - read from the original Excel 89SE VDO 0 to 7 Bar oil pressure guage.
Here's the psi equivalents...

oil temp C ....... 1000 rpm ................. 3000 rpm
Cold <15 ................ 90 psi ......................... 102 psi
warm 50 ................. 51 - 58 psi .................. 65- 73 psi
v. hot 95 ................. 22 -29 psi ................... 58 psi

Re: 83 Excel from from Finland
OK my 83 Excel is still running the Smiths Cauges. So thats a good point there different cauge type will inflens the result. But good to know that I should be hurrying up with my excel engine rebuild as by the statistic of one I have low oil pressure. Actually I will rebuild it as I have some. blowby on cylinder nuber 3 and it wont pass the emission next time around at the MOT here in Finland. But I will obviously replace all at once.
