Excel feature in "Classic Car World"

Post by johnthebass »

Anyone picked up on this one? There's a feature in Classic Car World's latest issue, an '86 excel narrow body. Not entirely sure about the article, the guy initially seemed to me to be more interested in Porsche than Lotus abeit in the end seemed to like it. At the end of the article we learn that this very good looking motor had been sold for under £2K! Seems cheap to me! Does anyone know the car? It's reg is B631 NSG. If it's not in your local newsagents go to www.great-cars.co.uk you can order a copy on-line.

That white early Excel on the cover was for sale on Pistonheads for £2100 last month. I thought it seemed a bargain at the time

I was watching that car on Pistonheads, but it sold before I was in a position to start seriously looking.

Will try and get hold of a copy of the magazine. There was an Excel versus TVR Tasmin feature in Classic and Sports Car a few months back, so maybe people are starting to notice them?

I went to look at this car. Really nice chap (and charming wife) who works in car photography I believe. The car was not the right one for me as it would have taken a fair bit of money (more than I had anyway) to make it as I would want it for the road. The interior was a bit too bad, it needed new tyres and an exhaust and there were some suspicious noises from the starter motor. That said, the bodywork was outstanding and it ticked over well - I am sure it is making somebody somewhere a very happy person indeed! :)

Yet to see the article but I will go out and have a look tonight I think!

Hi folks I'm new here, thinking about getting a esprit or excel.

Just bought the mag it's a good write up, nothing I hadn't already read elsewhere on this forum and other sites. Plenty long enough with some lovely pics it was still worth it.

Given what ABT has said about the car in question I guess that the selling price does reflect the cost of putting matters right. Hopefully the new owner will proceed with a restoration and enhance it's value. At least ir's still on the road!
