DRLs, daylight running lights

Post by bash »

Ive fitted some discreet ones. DRLs are on when the ignitions on but go off a soon as the lights are switched on.
I used two led lights from carbuilder solutions https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/micro-28m ... light-pair
, a relay, some light duty wiring because led lights hardly use any power. I made two small plinths and mounted them inside the front sidelight assembly.

Shows led mount. Note silver tape inside the light housing which is a good mod on its own

Drl only

For the relay wiring, (5 pin one), terminal 30 is from radio fuse, 87a is the drl lights, 85 sidelight fuse feed, 85 earth, 87 not used.

It all works really well. Dont do facebook but if someone wants to link this feel free

Good idea Bash.
How did you pick up the connection from the fuse box?
Did you use a fuse tap?
I've never used one, but fancy the idea as long as there's no potential issue. I can't think of an issue for this application (low power DLR) but someone might?

Something similar, saves cutting into any wires. When its parked no one knows they are there and I could remove them and no one would know they had been there.

Excellent mod Bash. There is also a company who sell LED backplates for the Elite/Eclat front sidelights/indicators (Classic Mini Clubman) - I don't know how bright they are though - not asked.

Good work, Bash. I'm adding this to my to do list (for when I'm retired).

& thanks for posting that picture, Peter K. I hadn't seen those before. I have so much to learn.

Ive been driving mine quite a bit lately and it saves having to have the light pods up on a grotty day. Glad you like it.

How warm do the LEDs run? Instead of having them go off when one turns on the lights, could you install them instead of the regular bulb? They sure look good and bright.

My units have replaced the standard bulb so are on permanently when selected. And I generally drive with them on always
