Carb float max drop?

Post by LotusMonkey »

Hi all,

I am trying to find out what the specification is for the DHLA float dropped measurement. I know for a Spec 10 carb the shut off height is 14.5-15.00mm, but nothing is given for the drop and I think mine are getting stuck when the car is not used and the fuel has evaporated. The floats are correct, and no holes. I think the Des Hammil book says 25mm (from memory, not to hand when writing), Tim Engel's excellent PDF says don't treat the Hammil book as gospel but gives no figure for this measurement, and there is nothing in the Excel service notes that I can find. Mine are currently about 23mm having reduced the drop to see if it fixes it. I might change it 20mm, but really wanted to see if someone had an 'official answer' or one they could measure at least.

Any help on this one gratefully received, as not loving the fuel pouring out the carbs :)
